SERVICE BULLETIN 197
September 30, 1992

TO: FAA Approved Propeller Repair Stations and Beech Aircraft Co.

SUBJECT: Starship Blade Daily Cleaning

MODEL AFFECTED: 5JFR36C1003

SERVICE MANUAL AFFECTED: 890119

CONDITION:
Field reports indicate a number of Starship operators are not following McCauley recommended propeller maintenance procedures.

The 5JFR36C1003/L104DSZ-0 propeller blades are to be cleaned frequently per the operator's manual provided with every propeller (MPC-15, para 3-17c). Cleaning is essential due to the presence of corrosive agents in the engine exhaust from the aircraft.

To prevent corrosion from forming on blades, remove exhaust soot from blades with a Stoddard solvent-dampened rag after the last flight of each day.

WARNING: Failure to follow these cleaning recommendations will result in severe paint erosion, blade corrosion, and possible premature blade replacement.

APPROVAL: FAA approval has been obtained on technical data in this bulletin that affects product type design.

TO OBTAIN SATISFACTORY RESULTS, PROCEDURES SPECIFIED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION MUST BE ACCOMPLISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ACCEPTED METHODS AND PREVAILING GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS.
