Service Bulletin 208A replaces Service Bulletin 208 dated September 15, 1993. Changes in this service bulletin include changes in the compliance time and an extension for warranty consideration. ** indicates changes.

CONDITION:
This propeller model was originally designed with a C-6440-[X] balance ring attached. The primary purpose of this ring was to add weight to the propeller assembly to match the weight of the previously approved two-bladed propeller. This prevents any significant change to the center-of-gravity characteristics of the aircraft on which this propeller is approved.

Field experience has revealed that the presence of this balance ring could possibly result in damage to the propeller cylinder mounting screws, which could ultimately allow release of the propeller cylinder. Consequently, McCauley has designed a number of heavier internal steel components to replace their counterparts in the original design. In addition, the propellers are to be modified to allow containment of internal lubricating oil in lieu of the normal grease lubrication.

The weight increase from the addition of steel parts, together with the lubricating oil, allows the removal of the C-6440-[X] balance weight, while retaining the necessary propeller mass. Incidentally, in addition to adding mass, oil-filling also provides superior propeller lubrication and corrosion protection, as well as a reliable means of early crack detection.

CORRECTION:
Modification to "oil-filled" configuration must be accomplished per Service Letter 1993-13.

COMPLIANCE:
**
All affected propeller models are to be modified to oil-filled configuration within the next 50 hours, at next annual inspection, or within 12 calendar months from the date of this service bulletin, whichever occurs first.

Propeller Compliance Identifier
Any 2A37C223/90RB-[X] propeller already modified per Service Letter 1993-13 will have an oil-fill plug in the hub and should be stamped following the model number 2A37C223-[X]C or subsequent

NOTE: Following compliance with SB 208, periodic inspections required per Service Bulletin 198 are no longer necessary. Consequently, Service Bulletin 198 is obsolete for all propellers modified per this service bulletin.

WARRANTY: Compliance with Service Bulletin 208A is covered under McCauley Warranty.

APPROVAL: FAA approval has been obtained on technical data in this bulletin that affects product type design.
